How to make seeing your dietitian online your favourite ritual 🤍💻
Hiya - Nadia here!
As my practice continues to grow and evolve, I have had to make the difficult decision to no longer accept new in-person clients.
I know a lot of people prefer to see their healthcare providers in-person (me too!). As a result, it can be disappointing to feel limited to online appointments.
Fortunately, being forced to go online over the pandemic has shown me that online appointments JUST as effective as in-person appointments. Even hypnotherapy works super well online!
Speaking from experience, seeing the clinician who feels most aligned for us online trumps seeing a less aligned clinician in person.
So if the person you’re wanting to see only offers online appointment, my advice is to turn it into an OPPORTUNITY to learn how to LOVE doing appointments online.
As a result, I wanted to share what I have found useful when swapping from in-person to online sessions.
For me, the best part of seeing someone in-person is the RITUAL around it. Going to a new space, with nice lighting, a comfy couch and a cup of tea (clearly I’m talking about therapist offices and not (most) GP offices!). Not to mention, the short drive home helps me to process what we’ve spoken about and decompress afterwards.
When I took a moment to think about what my favourite parts about that ritual were, I realised I could bring it into my own home.
What I’ve found helpful is making a ritual around my telehealth appointments. This can look like any of the following:
Finding the cosiest space in my house, such as a comfy chair in a reading nook or piling up cushions on the ground, or even outside on a sunny day
Lighting a candle or putting on a diffuser
Making a cup of tea or iced drink
Putting on some soft music in the background (think zen spa music vibes)
Spending 5 minutes journaling or going for a short walk or watering the garden after to process
Or if you have kids or your home feels like a chaotic place, with any luck, your clinician won’t mind if you do your session in the car or while you’re out for a walk (I certainly don’t!)
When we can bring mindfulness and ritual to our appointments, it feels so much more like the nourishing self-care activity that it truly is.
I LOVE seeing how my clients create ritual around our sessions so if you do this- please share in the comments below!
Happy telehealthing,
Nadia xx
